FORTUNATUS THE CYPRIOT (1st World Premiere)
Within the concept of Open Air Factory and the theme Myth and Religion, the ECOC Pafos2017 invites you to the Headquarters of Pafos2017 (ex-District officer’s Residence), for the world premiere of a theatrical adaptation of the Renaissance novel Fortunatus (1509) a tale about the adventures of a Cypriot from Famagusta.
A cross between a fairytale and a novel, Fortunatus is a narrative full of adventure, travels, fantasy and social criticism. It was one of the most popular narratives of its time and is considered to be the first European literary work that refers to Cyprus.
The Fantastiko Theatro is a collaboration between artists with significant growth in the arts in Cyprus and Greece who share the same vision about the critical importance of theater in society.
For Fortunatus, the Imaginary Theatre is pleased to collaborate for the first time with the distinguished choreographer Lia Haraki and the renowned Cypriot musician Antonis Antoniou, known through the band Monsieur Doumani. The team complement our frequent partners Euripides Righteous, percussion, and George Lazoglou in lighting design.
