Μουσική συναυλία με το “Transcontinental Saxophone Quartet”

Την Τρίτη, 1^η Σεπτεμβρίου 2015 και ώρα 8.30 μ.μ. το «Transcontinental Saxophone Quartet» θα βρίσκεται στον εξωτερικό χώρο του «Τεχνόπολις 20», για να σας παρουσιάσει ένα ευρύ ρεπερτόριο από το χώρο της τζαζ και σύγχρονης κλασικής μουσικής.

Το κουαρτέτο αποτελείται από τους Russell Peterson (σοπράνο σαξόφωνο, καθηγητή στο Concordia College, ΗΠΑ), Marco Albonetti (άλτο σαξόφωνο, καθηγητή στο Trento Conservatory, Ιταλία), Carrie Koffman (τενόρο σαξόφωνο, καθηγήτρια στο University of Hartford, ΗΠΑ) και τον Δρ. Γιάννη Μυράλη (βαρύτονο σαξόφωνο, καθηγητή στο Ευρωπαϊκό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου).

Λίγα λόγια για το κουαρτέτο

Νικητές του εθνικού διαγωνισμού MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) National Collegiate Chamber Music Competition καθώς και του γνωστού διαγωνισμού μουσικής δωματίου Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, το Transcontinental Saxophone Quartet (TSQ) έχει διαγράψει μια σημαντική πορεία στο χώρο του. Με εκατοντάδες εμφανίσεις σε Ευρώπη και Αμερική, το TSQ εμφανίστηκε σε χώρους όπως το φημισμένο φεστιβάλ μουσικής της Ραβέννας στην Ιταλία, τα ΧΙ και ΧΙΙ Παγκόσμια Συνέδρια Σαξοφώνου στην Βαλέντσια της Ισπανίας και στο Μοντρεάλ του Καναδά αντίστοιχα, καθώς και σε δεκάδες πανεπιστήμια και αίθουσες συναυλιών στις ΗΠΑ και την Ευρώπη. 

Το κουαρτέτο προσφέρει νέες και πρωτότυπες ηχητικές δυνατότητες με έργα τα οποία συγκεράζουν στοιχεία από την σύγχρονη, «κλασική,» τζαζ, ροκ, παραδοσιακή και έθνικ μουσική. Ενταγμένο στην προώθηση και ανάπτυξη του ρεπερτορίου του σαξοφώνου, το TSQ βρίσκεται συχνά σε στενή συνεργασία με Έλληνες και ξένους συνθέτες, αναθέτοντας παραγγελίες και αναλαμβάνοντας παγκόσμιες εκτελέσεις έργων από Έλληνες, Κύπριους και Ιταλούς και Αμερικανούς συνθέτες.

Το κουαρτέτο ιδρύθηκε το 1993 στο Bowling Green State University της πολιτείας του Oχάιο, κάτω από την επίβλεψη του Dr. John Sampen. Έκτοτε τα μέλη του έχουν διαδραματίσει σημαντικό ρόλο στο χώρο του κλασικού σαξοφώνου είτε ως νικητές σε διεθνείς διαγωνισμούς μουσικής, είτε ως συνθέτες έργων για σαξόφωνο, είτε ως καθηγητές σαξοφώνου σε πανεπιστημιακές σχολές και κονσερβατόρια στην Ευρώπη και τις Η.Π.Α.

Το TSQ έχει στο ενεργητικό του ένα ψηφιακό δίσκο με τίτλο “Mountain Roads” (TROY 412, 2001) με την εταιρεία Albany Records (www.albanyrecords.com) της Νέας Υόρκης και προγραμματίζει την ηχογράφηση του δεύτερου ψηφιακού του δίσκου. ΒΙΟΓΡΑΦΙΚΑ ΣΗΜΕΙΩΜΑΤΑ ΚΑΛΛΙΤΕΧΝΩΝ

An accomplished classical/jazz saxophonist, bassoonist and composer, RUSSELL PETERSON holds degrees from Youngstown State University (Ohio), Le Conservatoire de Bordeaux (France), and Bowling Green State University (Ohio), where he studied with Dr. James Umble, Donald Byo, Jean-Marie Londeix, Dr. Jeffery Lyman and Dr. John Sampen. Winner of numerous prizes, including the top prize at the International Geneva Saxophone Concours, (Switzerland), and first place winner of the MTNA National Music Competition, Mr. Peterson has soloed with orchestras in the United States as well as Europe, including the Dana Chamber Orchestra, (USA), Concordia Orchestra, (USA), Bowling Green Philharmonic, (USA), L'Orchestra de la Suisse Romande, (Switzerland), Collegium Musicum, Basel (Switzerland), The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra, The Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra (USA), The Orchestra Conservatorio Superior De MÂœsica (Spain), The Western New York Chamber Orchestra (USA), and The St. Petersburg Philharmonic, (Russia).

Mr. Peterson is an active chamber musician, performing extensively throughout Europe and The United States with The Transcontinental Saxophone Quartet, and is currently also performing with the Hard-Bop Jazz Saxophone Quartet in Fargo-Moorhead. The Hard-Bop Quartet's first CD release "DON'T STEP ON YOUR NECK", is available on Sea-Breeze records and the TSQ's debut CD "MOUNTAIN ROADS" is available on Albany Records. Russell's first solo CD "AMERICAN BREATH" is on Barking Dog Records and features the music of David Maslanka, Larry Bell and Peterson.  Russell released "Russ Peterson and Friends, Jazz/Rock Saxophone" in Jan of 2010.  As an Orchestral player, Russell has served as bassoonist with several symphony orchestras, and is currently principal bassoonist with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony, as well as bassoonist with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Wind Quintet.

Mr. Peterson has performed with some of the most notable artist in the business:  Phil Woods, Manhattan Transfer, Dave Weckle, Peter Erskin, Henry Mancini, Gregg Bissonette, Ray Charles, Wayne Newton, Bill Watrous, Gregg Field, Frankie Valie and the 4 Seasons, Maureen McGovern, Samuel Sanders, The Eroica Trio, Will Kennedy, Frankie Avalon, Tommy Igoe, Nick Brignola, Zoro, Ignacio Berroa, Terri Lyne Carrington, the Four Tops.

As a composer, Russell has premiered his "Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra" with Joel Revzen and the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra in 2000, as well as his "Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Percussion Orchestra" at Concordia College with the Tri-College Percussion Ensemble, which GRAMOPHONE Magazine, (Feb., 2003) noted: 'Peterson's own 16-minute Concerto, featuring Spanish rhythms and a lovely second-movement duet with vibraphone, is an effective vehicle for his striking command of color and dynamics. The highly-charged sound is riveting...'

He has been commissioned by the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony to compose a "Concerto for Timpani and Orchestra" which was premiered to rave reviews in April of 2002, including GRAMOPHONE Magazine, (May 2003), 'Peterson playing with great abandon and dazzling virtuosity, the music has a seductive allure and visceral excitement that is more than the sum of its purely musical parts.' A CD of The music of Russell Peterson featuring the Saxophone and Timpani Concerto is now available from the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony. The Fergus Falls High School Band premiered hi band work "The Tornado of 1919" in 2001, and his new chamber works for sax were premiered in 2003: "Sonata for Alto sax and piano" and "Quintet for Alto sax and strings". He premiered his new "Sonata for alto saxophone and Marimbas" with the Concordia Marimba Choir in 2006 at the Concordia Day of Percussion. Russell was commissioned by the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony to compose an opener for the 2005-06 season. "Between 2 Cultures" was premiered on the opening concert in Sept. 2005.  His "Trio for Alto Saxophone, Violin and Piano" was premiered at the region 3 NASA convention, April of 2007.  Russell's "Trio for flute, saxophone and piano" was premiered in Moorhead, MN in Oct. of 2009 and was performed in Calf. at the Summer 2010 National Flute Association convention, and the National North American Saxophone Alliance Convention in Athens, GA in March of 2010.  His "Trio for Viola, Saxophone and Piano" was premiered in 2010 and is now also "Trio #2 for Flute, Saxophone and Piano."  His newest piece, "Sonata for alto saxophone and guitar" will be premiered this summer at the 2012 World Saxophone Congress. 

Mr. Peterson has served on the faculty at Youngstown State University (Ohio), The University of Toledo (Ohio), Minnesota State University Moorhead, The Interlochen Summer Arts Camp (Michigan), The International Music Camp, and is currently instructor of Saxophone, Bassoon and Jazz ensemble at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Ο Δρ. MARCO ALBONETTIi έχει αναγνωριστεί διεθνώς ως ένας από τους πιο σημαντικούς Ιταλούς σαξοφωνίστες της γενιάς του. Έχει δώσει αριθμό συναυλιών στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, την Ιταλία, τη Γερμανία, τη Γαλλία, το Βέλγιο, την Ισπανία, την Ελβετία, την Αυστρία, την Κύπρο, τη Νότιο Αφρική και τον Καναδά και έχει εμφανιστεί ως σολίστ με διάφορες ορχήστρες της Ευρώπης και Αμερικής. Έχει παραγγείλει και έχει δώσει παγκόσμιες πρεμιέρες έργων του G. Schuller, B. Rands, D. Maslanka, J. Harbison, C. Scinto, K. O’ Riordan, L. Bell, Φ. Δυμιώτη και έχει συμμετάσχει σε γνωστά μουσικά φεστιβάλ όπως το Ravenna Festival στην Ιταλία, Notti Malatestiane, Toledo Contemporary Music Festival, Bowling Green New Music Festival, KUBE-Chicago και το διεθνές μουσικό φεστιβάλ Xi ‘στην Κίνα. Αντιπροσώπευσε την Ιταλία και τις ΗΠΑ στα διεθνή φεστιβάλ σαξοφώνου στο Πέζαρο (1992), Βαλέντσια (1997), Μοντρεάλ και Μιννεάπολη (2003).

Έχει διαγωνιστεί και κερδίσει αριθμό διεθνών διαγωνισμών στην Ευρώπη, Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και Ν. Αφρική. Έχει ηχογραφήσει στο SABC, PIK1, LTV Lumiere και Wisconsin Public Radio. Ως μέλος του διακεκριμένου Transcontinental Saxophone Quartet ήταν Πρώτος νικητής στο διαγωνισμό μουσικής δωματίου του MTNA και νικητής στο διεθνή διαγωνισμό Fischoff των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών. Μαζί έχουν ηχογραφήσει το ψηφιακό δίσκο Mountains Roads ο οποίος περιλαμβάνει έργα Αμερικανών συνθετών.

Ο Marco είναι διπλωματούχος του Κονσερβατορίου Ροσσίνι στο Πέζαρο της Ιταλίας και του Mozarteum στο Σάλτσπουργκ της Αυστρίας. Είναι επίσης κάτοχος των τίτλων Μάστερ (Summa cum Laude) από το Bowling Green State University όπου ήταν μαθητής του Dr. John Sampen και Doctor of Musical Arts από το Michigan State University όπου μελέτησε κλασικό σαξόφωνο με τον James Forger και Joseph Lulloff και τζαζ σαξόφωνο με τον Andrew Speight και Brandford Marsalis. CARRIE KOFFMAN teaches on the faculty of The Hartt School at the University of Hartford. Prior to this, she held positions as Assistant Professor of Saxophone at Penn State University, Assistant Professor of Saxophone at the University of New Mexico, and taught at Boston University.

Performances have included the World Saxophone Congresses in St Andrews, Scotland, Bangkok, Thailand, and Minnesota; the SaxArt International Saxophone Festivals in Faenza, Italy; a tour throughout New Zealand; the Xi'an International Clarinet and Saxophone Festival in China; the Pine Mountain Music Festival in Michigan; the Virginia Arts Festival; the International Viola Congress; several North American Saxophone Alliance National Conventions; and the International Double Reed Convention in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Koffman has been a featured soloist with the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, the Pennsylvania Centre Chamber Orchestra, the Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hartt Symphony Orchestra, the Hartt Wind Ensemble, the PSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the UNM Wind Symphony, and the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble while touring Europe. Among her ensemble performing credits are appearances with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Sequitur and Le Train Bleu in New York City, the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, the Albuquerque Jazz Orchestra, and the Santa Fe Symphony. She performs in a contemporary chamber music duo, The Irrelevants, with violist Tim Deighton. Their “excellent playing” of several new works in a recent New York recital was noted in The Strad. Additionally, she appears frequently as a soloist, chamber musician, and clinician.

Committed to new music, commissions and premieres include over 45 compositions including works by Tanya Anisimova, Lera Auerbach, Susan Botti, Chen Yi, Michael Colgrass, Halim El-Dabh, John Duffy, Mark Kuss, Stephen Michael Gryc, Juliana Hall, Jennifer Higdon, Libby Larsen, David Macbride, Michael Mauldin, Hilary Tann, Joseph Turrin, Gunther Schuller, Christopher Schultis, James Sellars, Ken Steen, Augusta Read Thomas, and William Wood.

Recent recording projects include the CD's Carillon Sky, Dialogues and Dragon Rhyme. One review in Fanfare Magazine calls her playing “suave, subtly nuanced, and technically secure in its every gesture,” while another refers to her “melting tone and touching sensitivity.” She also has an ongoing recording and performing series entitled "Pink Ink" that is dedicated to promoting the music of living women composers.

Koffman's saxophone students have placed in over 75 different performance competitions. She is a founding faculty member of the American Saxophone Academy, an annual educational program designed for advanced college students and above. She also formerly taught saxophone for the All-State Program at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, and was the Director of Bands at Belleville South Middle School in Belleville, Michigan. Koffman is a graduate with high honors from the University of Michigan where she studied with Donald Sinta, and the University of North Texas where she studied with James Riggs and Eric Nestler.

Koffman is a certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher and teaches Yoga for Performers at The Hartt School. She is also a Conn-Selmer artist/clinician, and performs exclusively on Selmer Paris saxophones.

Ο Δρ. Γιάννης Μυράλης είναι αναπληρωτής καθηγητής μουσικής παιδαγωγικής και σαξοφώνου και αναπληρωτής κοσμήτορας της Σχολής Τεχνών και Επιστημών της Αγωγής στο Ευρωπαϊκό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου. Είναι κάτοχος μεταπτυχιακού και διδακτορικού διπλώματος στη μουσική παιδαγωγική από το Bowling Green State University και Michigan State University αντίστοιχα. Κατέχει επίσης πτυχίο μουσικής παιδαγωγικής από το Lawrence University, όπου φοίτησε με υποτροφία Fulbright, καθώς και δίπλωμα στη δημοτική εκπαίδευση από την Παιδαγωγική Ακαδημία Κύπρου.

Έχει δώσει αρκετά ρεσιτάλ μουσικής δωματίου στην Κύπρο, Ελλάδα, Ιταλία, Ισπανία, Ελβετία, Σερβία, Γερμανία, Ολλανδία, Λίβανο, Καναδά και Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες. Ως σολίστ σαξοφώνου εμφανίστηκε με το Μακεδονικό Κουαρτέτο Σαξοφώνων, την Κρατική Ορχήστρα Δωματίου Κύπρου, το Ensemble Philharmonia και τη Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα Κύπρου. Διετέλεσε μέλος του Αθηναϊκού Κουαρτέτου Σαξοφώνων και του Μακεδονικού Κουαρτέτου Σαξοφώνων με το οποίο εμφανίστηκαν στην Πολιτιστική Ολυμπιάδα του 2004, καθώς και σε σειρά συναυλιών στην Ελβετία με την Orchestre de Chamber de Neuchatel. Εκτός από το TSQ είναι επίσης ιδρυτικό μέλος του Mediterranean Trio, ένα σύνολο μουσικής δωματίου με βιολί, σαξόφωνο και πιάνο, με το οποίο εμφανίστηκε σε διάφορους χώρους στην Ευρώπη.

Έχει συνεργαστεί με διάφορους συνθέτες όπως οι J. Harbison, B. Rands, D. Maslanka, L. Bell, R. Borel, Φ. Δυμιώτης, Γ. Κάρβελλος, Κ. Στυλιανού, Χ. Σοφοκλέους, Ν. Κωνσταντινίδης και Κ. Παπαγεωργίου, για ανάπτυξη του ρεπερτορίου του σαξοφώνου.

Έχει διδάξει στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου, στη Μουσική Ακαδημία ΑΡΤΕ, στο University of Windsor, Michigan State University Community Music School και στο Flint Institute of Music. Από το 2001-2004 διετέλεσε επίκουρος καθηγητής σαξοφώνου και μουσικής παιδαγωγικής στο Lionel Hampton School of Music του University of Idaho. Είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος του Συνδέσμου Σαξοφώνου Ελλάδας, πρόεδρος του Συνδέσμου Σαξοφώνου Κύπρου Σαξοφωνία και μέλος του ΔΣ του European Chamber Music Teachers Association (ECMTA).
